The Cannon

There is a pair of eighteen-pound, seven-inch Russian cannon mounted in the foreground of the Parliament buildings. These are borne on “Systeme Venglou” carriages and are mounted on foundations of bolder-stone and stand positioned facing north. The cannon themselves carry no inscription, but are known to have been captured from the Russians in 1855 at Sebastopol during fierce fighting in the Crimean War of 1853-1856.
